PhysiologyContributes to the cytosolic oligopeptides, and to the late stages of processing of antigenic peptides for the MHC class I system (Levy et al., 2002). A role in the degradation of enkephalins has been proposed.
KnockoutMice deficient in the enzyme showed dwarfism, a marked increase in anxiety, and an analgesic effect. A variety of neurological abnormalities caused both males and females to be infertile (Osada et al., 1999; ; Osada et al., 2001a; Osada et al., 2001b).
