StructureADAM2 consists of an activation peptide, a reprolysin-like peptidase domain, a disintegrin domain, a cysteine-rich region, an epidermal growth factor-like domain, a transmembrane region and a cytoplasmic tail (Waters & White, 1997).
PhysiologyADAM2 functions in sperm adhesion and fusion with the egg plasma membrane (Ramarao et al., 1996). ADAM2 is processed during epididymal maturation, releasing N- and C-terminal propeptides. Mature mouse ADAM2 is a 45 kDa protein (Cho et al., 2000).
