Pharmaceutical relevanceLysostaphin is effective in treating experimental endophthalmitis mediated by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (Dajcs et al., 2001; Dajcs et al., 2002). Its therapeutic value may be improved by conjugation with polyethylene glycol (Walsh et al., 2003). Lysostaphin cream eradicated Staphylococcus aureus nasal colonisation in a rat model (Kokai-Kun et al., 2003).
